How do I get rid of Cellulite? I exercise, eat right yet I still have the lumps where I don't want them?
Cellulite is a problem that plagues most women. As you've found out it doesn't go away with exercise and diet...or many of the topical creams and lotions. The reason none of these options work is cellulite is not a fat problem.
There are three structural problems that cause the appearance of cellulite. First, the connective tissue bands beneath your skin surrounding fat cells can become tight and inflexible. Second, enlarged pockets of fat trapped by the rigid bands push up against skin. Finally, thin skin makes the appearance of cellulite even worse. All of these work together to create the dimpled, orange peel look that is associated with cellulite.
Fortunately, the FDA just cleared a new procedure called Cellulaze. Cellulaze targets the underlying structure that causes cellulite and is the first treatment that attacks the structure of cellulite for longer-lasting results.
Cellulaze uses a proprietary technology to target the causes of cellulite beneath the skin. During the procedure, a tiny laser fiber is inserted under the skin, which gently heats the skin and disrupts or melts the fat. Next the laser releases the fibrous bands that create the dimpling effect from pulling down on the skin. This release creates a smoother look. Finally the laser's energy stimulates collagen production to increase skin's thickness and elasticity for a more even, healthier appearance. Most patients see results in a few weeks that actually lasts.
What's the difference between invasive and non-invasive surgery?
That's a great and important question! Technically, "invasive" means an incision is large enough for a doctor to use their hands while "non-invasive" means a smaller or no incision is needed. In cosmetic surgery, this means the difference between the amount of time needed for recovery and potential for complications. While I am a board certified licensed surgeon, my practice has evolved to specialize in non or minimally invasive procedures.
I have a tattoo that must go! But the more research I do, the more confused and scared I have become. Does your practice perform tattoo removal?
Many people are becoming interested in tattoo removal. There are many options that make lots of promises. But most of them are painful, expensive and only partially successful. I have been researching this subject for 7 years and now, and finally the laser technology has evolved to give patients good to excellent results with minimal risk. I am one of five surgeons in the country that offers the latest in laser tattoo removal.
This new tattoo removal laser operates on 4 different wavelengths to get deep into the skin where the ink resides. Multiple laser wavelengths mean that we can remove even the most stubborn colors. The results are astonishing as your skin returns to its original pre-tattoo appearance in most cases. Some variability in results persists due to the unknown ink contents.
Be sure to do your research before you invest any money in this procedure. Some snake oil salesmen have done quite well in this area. The good news is that you no longer have to live with body art from the past if you don't want to.

What is the difference between Liposuction and other ways to lose stubborn fat?
Liposuction is the oldest and best known procedure, but recently new options have become more popular. Both SmartLipo and CoolSculpting™, are minimally invasive techniques which produce great results.
During CoolSculpting™, a non-invasive applicator delivers precisely controlled cooling to the treatment area. Treatment cycles last one hour. The procedure is very comfortable and often patients read or work on a laptop during treatment. Since no anesthetic is needed, patients can continue with their normal lifestyle the same day, with no downtime.
The best candidates for the CoolSculpting™ procedure are people near their ideal body weight who eat well and exercise regularly but still have pockets of fat that have not responded to a healthy lifestyle. They are seeking long-lasting spot reduction for specific areas of fat, but they are not considering a surgical procedure with its inherent expense, downtime, and risks.
SmartLipo® uses laser technology to melt and liquefy the fat within the fat cells. It smooths and tightens the skin to decrease any laxity. It can be utilized to treat smaller areas of fat, such as below the chin, or to treat larger areas of fat in the abdomen, flanks, thighs and arms.
SmartLipo® uses a carefully calibrated laser to liquefy fat deposits. The laser actually bursts fat cells, which are then removed through a tiny incision in the skin by the surgeon. The incision is so small you won't need a suture. The small laser can also seal blood vessels as it zaps fat, so there is less swelling, bleeding and bruising than with traditional liposuction. The minimal invasiveness of the procedure allows patients to recover quickly with good skin tightening.
In addition, SmartLipo®'s patients need only a local anesthetic for this procedure. Since the patient is only mildly sedated, SmartLipo® carries significantly fewer risks than traditional liposuction, and the recovery time is much shorter.
The Smartlipo® procedure lasts anywhere from forty-five minutes to a couple hours. Recovery time is minimal - you can go to work as early as the next day, but a few days recovery is recommended.
Have hope! Losing stubborn inches is not as difficult or painful as it has been in the past. Make sure you take the time you need with your surgeon to pick the right option.
